Finding Fun & Friends

We are a non-profit organization serving all persons (60+) in Washington County, Illinois.

About Us

The primary focus of the organization's purpose and mission is to provide and promote the maximum use of existing resources by coordinating programs and services within the county which enable older persons to remain independent as long as possible and to prevent premature institutionalization.

Our History

The Senior Citizen’s Multi-Purpose Center, a not-for-profit corporation, opened in October 1980 at St. Barbara’s Educational Building.

Ella Kemper is credited with securing the first grant of $18,000. Charles Buss was the first president of the board.

After two years at St. Barbara’s and one year at the Community Club Hall, the Planning Commission and Village Board secured a grant from the Department of Commerce and Community Affairs to build a Senior Center. The $400,000 building was completed on October 25, 1983 at no cost to the village.

In May of 1986 the corporation name was changed to Washington County Senior Services Inc., to better reflect the service area.
